Less is More when Mixing

Wow. The last mix on Stellar barely took anytime, yet I’ve gotten the most positive feedback on the mix. I’m almost satisfied too.

Funny but important fact – I barely spent anytime on it. I mean, compared to any other Melakartha mix which would take 4-5 hour sessions spanning multiple days, the time spent on this pales in comparison. Just enough to get the song talking for itself.

I didnt:

  • Go overboard with Effects
  • Get anal trying to find the right master bus compressor
  • Spend time on small details that didn’t matter

Look what we have here ladies and gentlemen, a new learning!

Less is more always sridhar ;) haha
those pearls of wisdom that you just dropped is so amazingly true and I feel that in dance . The more overboard I go trying to make something look good or like something , the less it ends up being that and thus leaving me dissatisfied ! I guess with practise and experience you try less to dress up a work of art and it ends being more than what you imagined . I also strongly feel every artiste needs to go through a phase of trying too hard and in a funny way it is an essential evil and helps you grow mature :)

  2. Bingo. It’s like you have to do it to realize that you shouldn’t do it. Can’t jump to step #2 directly.

    You nailed it!

Yes you are right Sridhar. You have to make mistakes to learn not to do them again.
