You don’t need real amps, but you’d need the right software. For an elegant and (free) solution, I’d recommend this – First up, you’d need a good clean guitar signal, and then get the Nick Crow VST amp sims. They are great starting points. Then you’d need an impulse simulator like Voxengo Boogex (free as well) and you can download any of the millions of free impulse files floating around. Instant, free tone!

Hi…its been too late…… but anyways…i want to ask something regarding guitar recording n stuffs.

I have fast track pro sound card. I use cheap DAWs like reaper and mixcraft with tones of VSts. I dun use any real amp or pedals etc…but use vsts like guitar rig, amplitude, revalver or plektron etc with drum kit from hell.
Now my question is wen i tried recording my guitar using roland headphone…i cannot get good heavy meatl sound even after using so many effects. Do we need real amp like peavys, marshals etc or just guitar softwares will do da need?
